Homework (important!!!) Assigned and (strongly!) recommended, not graded (we will be discussing homework extensively in class, though). Emphasis here is on strengthening your sense of responsibility and self-evaluation. You should always try to leave ample room for homework practice and serious class review (reading over the book, the notes, etc.), the more the better -- or else at the very least feel thoroughly guilty. If you don't put in a lot of extra work in this class, you are awfully likely to be wasting your time and money. Working through all the homework recommended in class (scroll down on this webpage for updates) will allow excellent preparation for the the tests -- doing just a problem or two is pretty much useless, unless you are a certified genius of course. Again, in case I have not made myself clear: not doing homework spells D.O.O.M.
Grades The four quizzes will be worth 5% each, and the three tests and the final will be worth 20% each (the final will be fourth test, not comprehensive). Letter grades A (resp. A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D, D-) will be assigned if your percentage will be at least 93 (resp. 90, 86, 84, 81, 76, 74, 71, 66, 64, 60). Percentages below 60 will be graded F. "Credit" will be given when the grade is C- or higher, "No Credit" when the grade is below C-. Grades will be posted via Gradebook. Please note that there will be no opportunity for "extra credit," at all.
Accommodation If you need course adaptations or accommodations because of a disability, if you have emergency medical information to share with the instructor, or if you need special arrangements in case the building must be evacuated, please make an appointment with the instructor as soon as possible (office location, phone and email address are on the home page).
Attendance and Cheating Policies BSU's official Attendance Policy will hold, but no attendance records will be kept for this class. However, you are responsible for completing any work you have missed. Most important, let the instructor know well in advance if you should not be able to attend to a scheduled Quiz or Test. The general policy here is that no make-up tests will be given, but in case of serious medical or family reasons a timely announcement will allow to find alternate accommodations. It is also assumed that you are familiar with the Student Code document addressing the issue of academic dishonesty.
